The Spanish Architects Javier G Pioz & M. Rosa Cervera, Cervera & Pioz Architects, have been awarded with “THE GOLDEN GLOBAL AWARD”, a privileged award at the global level given by ‘Architecture + Design & Spectrum Foundation’ in the Seventh Cycle of the prestigious “Architecture + Design & Spectrum Foundation Architecture Awards”.

These awards recognize the excellence of architecture in India and South East Asia (Malasya, Singapore, Thailandia) and at global level.

In this edition, the award at Global Level has recognized the work of Javier G Pioz & Maria Rosa Cervera for Research in Bionic Architecture and their innovative architecture.

The ceremony of the Award was hold in the Asian Civilizations Museum of Singapore on july 25th.

Javier G. Pioz and Rosa Cervera have received a Trophy and a Commendation. The Jury comment is the next:

“There are very few architects who have contributed to the growth and spirit of purposeful architecture al the global level. Based on our professional research, the Indian national architectural journal Architecture + Desing and Spectrum Foundation have great pleasure in bestowing the prestigious ‘Golden Global Award for Research in Bionic Architecture’ of the ‘Architecture + Design & Spectrum Fpundation Architecture Awards 2007’ on Architects Javier G. Pioz and M. Rosa Cervera.

Their immense dedication and a continued pursuance in bringing a close rapport and cohesion between architecture of the different countries is known to all. They at the same time have brought forward a gloval cohesiveness in researching urban solution for the future.

Architects Javier G. Pioz and Rosa Cervera will be remembered as an institution in himself.

Architecture + Design & Spectrum Foundation Architecture Awards

The Awards presentation ceremony of the Seventh Cycle of the prestigious “Architecture + Design & Spectrum Foundation Architecture Awards” was held at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore on July 25, 2008. This Award is constituted by Architecture + Design, a premier architectural journal and Spectrum Paints, the pioneers of textured wall finishes.

The evening commenced with the inauguration of the exhibition of the winning entries by noted critic and architect William Lim, Singapore. He said, “This is a remarkable programme instituted by a magazine with the support of an industrial company. I had an opportunity to have a look at the interesting projects and meet the Indian friends and participants.” He added that the connectivity between India and South-East Asia is a particular area where the cross fertilisation of ideas can be both useful and fruitful.

Chief Guest Dr S Jaishankar, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, and Guest of Honour Mr Tai Lee Siang, President, Singapore Institute of Architects kicked off the proceedings with the ceremonial lamp lighting. Dr S Jaishankar was very pleased to have such a meet in Singapore. He congratulated all the winners as well as the organisers. 

Mr Tai Lee Siang felt heartened by Architecture + Design and Spectrum Foundation’s generosity to organise this architectural awards in recognition of Asia’s best in Singapore. He said, “It will further strengthen the ties between the two countries and the two communities of architects”. Talking about Asian architecture, he said, “Asia must discover Asia. The leading players in Asia must take active steps to discover our own talents and help bring them to the forefront and we must acknowledge the talents of our Asian architects.” He congratulated all the winners and challenged them to continue and contribute for a great cause of architecture.

Dr S Jaishankar and Tai Lee Siang did the honours of presenting the awards. There were five categories to honour creative architecture – The Habitat Award for Residence Design, The Institutional Architecture Award, The recreational Architecture Award, The Innovative Interior Design Award and The Young Enthused Architect Award. The winners of these categories were bestowed with a cash award of Rs 50,000, a trophy and a citation.

Architect Brinda Somaya bagged the Wienerberger Golden Architect Award- India, which included a cash award of Rs 1,25,000, the Golden Architect trophy and a citation.

Excellence in architecture in the South-East Asian belt – Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand were applauded respectively with “The Golden Award for Excellence in Architecture”.  The recipients of this award, Parid Wardi Sudin (Malaysia), Sonny Chan (Singapore) and Nithi Sthapitanonda (Thailand) made the evening lively with their thought-provoking talks.

There was yet another privileged award at the global level, “THE GOLDEN GLOBAL AWARD”, which went to Javier G Pioz & Maria Rosa Cervera for Research in Bionic Architecture and their innovative architecture.

The winners were selected by an energetic, unbiased panel of jury members consisting of 25 eminent architects and academicians from all over India and the neighbouring countries.
Over 200 professionals including the industry stalwarts from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and India were present at the event, where they exchanged thoughts with each other. The evening flowed into extended discussions in groups over cocktail and dinner.

The Awards Ceremony was supported by Wienerberger (Bangalore), Teknion (Malaysia) and Singapore Institute of Architects, Singapore Tourism Board and the media partner was Bangkok Design Festival.
